The Clara Ford Foundation will offer a Beginning Quilting class Saturday, August 09, 2014. The class is part of the 2014 Atlanta Quilt Festival activities.

The class will be taught by Nina Moore at the South Fulton Arts Center from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The South Fulton Arts Center is located at 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA. A sewing machine is required for this class.

The  cost of the class is $20.00 which includes a fabric kit. Space is limited so you must reserve your space early. Please contact Nina Moore at nmoore9548@aol.com to reserve your spot and to receive further details about the class. You may also email atlantaquiltfestival@gmail.com to register.

Quilt Market Makes its Debut at 2013 Atlanta Quilt Festival

The attendees at the 2012 Atlanta Quilt Festival voted Nina Moore’s quilt Patchwork First Runner-Up for Best of Show in the  juried exhibit of the 2012 Atlanta Quilt Festival. Thank you to all who voted.

World Quilt Show Opens Thursday in West Palm Beach

The quilts of two Atlanta quilters will be part of the World Quilt Show when it opens Thursday, November 10 in West Palm Beach, Florida. They are Nina Moore and Marva Swanson. Nina will exhibit  In the Tall Grass, and Marva will exhibit Tumbling in Space.

The show will feature over 450 quilts from 10 countries. It will be held at the Palm Beach County Convention Center.  For more information, visit the show’s  website.

In The Tall Grass at Georgia Quilt Show This Weekend

If you love Nina Moore’s work, and you should, you can see her quilt In The Tall Grass at the Georgia Quilt Show this weekend at the Gwinnett Center. This quilt won “Viewer’s Choice”  at  the 2010 Atlanta Quilt Festival which was held at the South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA.

Nina will have new pieces to exhibit at the 2012 Atlanta Quilt Festival opens July 29th. She will also teach a Beginning Quilting Class.

It’s harvest time, and the ladies in Nina Moore’s quilt are headed to the market to get the freshest produce. But who knows who you might see at market, so these ladies are dressed in their best colorful finery of batik fabrics.

Nina pieced and appliqued Market Day by hand. She used her machine for the embroidery and the beautiful quilting. The quilt measures 19 x 23 inches.

Forever Friends was part of a group of four friendship quilts featured at the 2011 Atlanta Quilt Festival exhibit which was held at the South Fulton Arts Center. It was created by O.V. Brantley.

Learn to Quilt Saturday

Have you always wanted to learn to quilt? Saturday is your chance. Nina Moore will teach Beginning Quilting at Hammonds House Museum Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. A sewing machine is required.

This class is free, but you must register. To register, contact Hammonds House Museum or email O.V. Brantley at ovbrant@gmail.com. Class size is limited, so sign up today.

This event is part of the activities of the 2011 Atlanta Quilt Festival. The quilt exhibit will remain at South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road until August 13, 2011.  Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily. There is still time to go by and vote for your favorite quilt.

Fortitude

The featured quilt of the week in the January 2, 2011 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter  is called Fortitude.  It was created by Nina Moore.
 
Fortitude features abstract patchwork in purple, yellow and brown. It is machine pieced, machine quilted and embellished with glass beads, metal beads and fabric beads. It measures 30 x 31 inches.

An abstract quilt, like an abstract painting, allows your mind to extract whatever meaning you wish. Sometimes the title gives a clue as to what the creator of the work was thinking. Since Nina named her quilt Fortitude, I see strength in  the browns and happiness in the yellows. From strength comes happiness.

In the Tall Grass by Nina Moore won Viewers Choice at the 2010 Atlanta Quilt Festival exhibit which recently ended at the South Fulton Arts Center in College Park. Nina takes home a cash prize of $50.00 awarded by the Clara Ford Foundation.

Nina Moore will teach Beginning Quiltmaking Wednesday, August 11, 2010 as part of the festivities of the 2010 Atlanta Quilt Festival. Although the class is full, there is always next year! 

Shown is one of Nina’s quilts that is featured in the 2010 Atlanta Quilt Festival exhibit. It is called Solitude. The exhibit continues through August 13, 2010 at the South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park,  GA. 

Admission is free.

Tall Grass at Atlanta Quilt Festival

The featured quilt of the week in the July 25, 2010 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter is called Tall Grass, and it was created by Nina Moore. This quilt, along with approximately 50 other quilts and dolls, will be part of the 2010 Atlanta Quilt Festival sponsored by the Clara Ford Foundation and Hammonds House Museum. The Atlanta Quilt Festival will be held August 1 -13 at the South Fulton Arts Center,  located at 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA.

Nina says this quilt was inspired by  a painting she saw on a friend’s wall. She used applique techniques to interpret the painting on fabric. Then she embellished the quilt with beads and shells to bring the quilt alive.
 
In addition to exhibiting her beautiful work during the Atlanta Quilt Festival, Nina will also teach a Beginning Quilting class August 11, 2010. The class is free, but space is limited. Hearts and Houses

The featured quilt of the week in the June 20, 2010 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter  honors Ms. Ollivette Allison, an extraordinary woman who passed away recently. Before joining her fellow angels in heaven, she left an indelible mark on this world. For over 59 years, she worked at the Carrie Steele Pitts Home, becoming its executive director in 1976. During that time she personally touched and impacted the lives of over 6000 children.

Soon after its formation, the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild adopted the Carrie Steele Pitts Home and its children as its primary service project, thanks to member Rosalind Newell. Each year, the guild made quilts for the children so that they would have something special to call their own.The joy of making the quilts for the children and the gratitude of the children receiving them became a remarkable partnership over the years.

The featured quilt is called Hearts and Houses. It was a group project organized by Rosalind to help raise funds for the Carrie Steele Pitts Home. It did indeed bring a substantial price for the home. Other quilters who helped Rosalind make this extraordinary quilt are Maxine Moore, Bessie Barnett, Cathy Johnson, Marva Swanson, Nina  Moore and O.V. Brantley.

Hearts and Houses is truly a special quilt — not because it is beautiful, but because of what it did to help others.

Beginning Quilting Class Offered During Quilt Festival

Have you always wanted to learn to quilt? Now is the time.  A beginning quilting class will be offered as part of the activities during the 2010 Atlanta Quilt Festival. The class will be offered Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA. It will be taught by Nina Moore.

Because passing on the art of quilting is a core mission of the Clara Ford Foundation, this class will be offered  at no charge to the first 12 people to sign up. The only way to sign up is to visit the Quilt Show which opens August 1. A sign-up sheet and supply list will be available at the show.
